Biographies
About CARMA
Carma is currently
available for all types of Unix and Linux operating platforms. This
includes most legacy systems, which typically have a Unix base.
By 2004, it will be expanded to include all versions of Windows
operating systems. Another planned addition to Carma is e-commerce
functionality, which will allow e-commerce portals and linked back-end
databases to be fully integrated under the Carma umbrella. This
will increase the level of security for customers, and make it easier
for network administrators to monitor the functioning of e-commerce
sites. |

 Rudolf
(Rudi) RiegerPresident & Chief Technology Officer  Mr. Rieger manages product development at Carmasoft. As owner of Diamond Computer Systems PTY Ltd., he has developed Carma over the past 20 years, and is a specialist in computer security for Unix systems. Mr. Rieger has over 30 years of experience in developing and implementing computer systems in Europe and Africa. Earlier in his career, he managed major software design and integration projects for Swissair and Swiss Credit Bank in Zurich. In 1976 he moved to South Africa to take up a post at NCR as the Regional Manager of IT Development, where he headed up both domestic and international projects, reporting directly to NCR HQ in Ohio. He has consulted on numerous corporate security projects in Africa, including a recently completed project for the Namibian Ministry of Basic Education. |

Piers Hayes Vice President Sales & Marketing Mr. Hayes leads the sales department at Carmasoft. He has over 30 years of experience in the marketing and sales of Information Technology Systems. As director of Productivity Software, South Africa, he brought to market the ADR (Applied Data Research) range of system & security software products for IBM mainframes, and secured a 100% market penetration in a little over two years. Following an invitation to join the board of Advance Promotions, a national distributor of leading brand-name IT products, he was instrumental in taking the company through an IPO on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and increasing revenues 15 fold through a three-year period to US$53 M. In Canada, Mr. Hayes managed large accounts for GE Capital Technology Services, a major software and hardware distributor, and was a founding partner of Spider Cache, an internet services firm. Mr. Hayes has a marketing degree from IMM, Johannesburg, South Africa. |

Our Organization caters for on-line, batch reporting and “ad hoc” enquiry across a broad customer base, and as such security is a critical success factor to both our customers and PNL’s operation. The host system for the above mentioned applications is an Intel UNIX server under VT100 and other emulation. After careful market evaluation we made the decision to install Computer Access Reporting, Management & Administration (CARMA), and retain the consulting and support services as offered by Diamond Computer Software Systems (Pty)Ltd. This has had the effect of not only securing each of our customers by creating a “water tight” partition in which they can function knowing that each and every transaction is tracked and date/time stamped, but also to create a precisely controlled bureau environment. Not only do our clients enjoy a more secure environment than they would with an in- house installation, our Bureau operates with a security that has hither to been unavailable. Unexpected benefits from the CARMA installation have been the automated billing and costing reconciliation facilities, so that our Customer billing and internal charge back functions have been largely automated. Further, because of the automation of our system procedures, we have made substantial reductions to our training costs, and therefore reduced the need for expensive UNIX staff. Our bureau administration and data handing department operates successfully with little training of the operating system and/or applications. In conclusion, we would highly recommend CARMA to any environment that has concerns for security, or needs to reduce it’s operating costs. |
